About

This blog is mainly going to be about my thoughts, opinions and views on technology, and how it impacts our lives. But first, a few words about myself. I’m Amit, and I’m working in the domain of multimedia. I’ve graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT-Bombay) with an M.Tech in EE. For my graduate thesis, I worked on the interesting problem of visual search, also called as content-based image retrieval (CBIR). After graduating, I’ve worked with Siemens Research Labs (2006-2008) and am currently employed with Samsung India Research Labs (2008-present). I’ve worked on surveillance technologies (intrusion detection), driver-assistance systems (lane-departure warning systems), biometrics (automatic fingerprint recognition) and image and video processing. I am passionate about new technology, start-ups, gadgets and photography. You can follow me on Twitter (@amitprabhudesai). In my spare time I like to read (fiction, short stories, history), try out new recipes in the kitchen, write (blog posts), and chat up with friends. I also like to try my hand out at amateur photography!

About this blog

This blog, as the tagline says, going to be a playground, a whiteboard of sorts to let loose my thoughts, ideas on technology. It will primarily be about technology, but real technology is that which touches people’s lives, brings them closer and makes the world a better place. As such, I’ll also post on how technology is changing our lives, and making a real impact on our day-to-day activities. I’m going to try and post weekly for starters, so watch out for more!

  1. Hmmm… this playground is pretty big! Mountains covered with green fields, ocean extending to the horizon, blue sky above… It looks like that ‘rebuilding the Earth’ project of those mice in “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to Galaxy” :P

    Anyway, have fun writing!
